We were really pleased to be able to give our year 8s the opportunity to experience performance poetry ‘live’ at school from professional poet Chris Redmond on the 17th March. Chris hosts the annual poetry event ‘Tongue Fu’ and has performed at festivals such as Glastonbury and Latitude – so we were delighted that he could host workshops for our students and let them have a go at experimenting with their own poetry. There were some fantastic results from the morning’s creative writing, which linked with the unit that year 8 are currently studying in English on poetry and ‘identity’ following the reading of the novel ‘Wonder.’ We’ve certainly got some budding poets at SWR!
