The Athelstan Trust is delighted to announce that Will Ruscoe has been appointed Headteacher at Sir William Romney’s School from September 2023.
Will is currently Vice Principal at Melksham Oak Community School which is an 11-18 comprehensive with 1,270 students. Prior to that, he was an Assistant Headteacher at The John Bentley School (now known as Kingsbury Green Academy). He started his teaching career as a Geography teacher at The Stonehenge School.
There was a strong field of candidates for the role with a two-day interview process involving Trustees, Local Governors, Headteachers from other schools in the Trust as well as a panel consisting of staff and students.
Will has three children who keep him busy away from school and he enjoys running in his spare time – he recently ran the Barcelona Marathon. He is also a passionate supporter of Plymouth Argyle and Bath Rugby and enjoys watching their games when he can. He says “I am delighted to be appointed as Headteacher at Sir William Romney’s School. I look forward to working with everyone involved with the school and The Athelstan Trust. I wish to build on the school’s strong reputation in offering an excellent inclusive education based on high quality teaching whilst offering a wide range of extra-curricular activities.”
The Chair of governors, Anna Herbert, says “We are really looking forward to Will starting as Headteacher. Will stood out to us all from his application and throughout the two-day interview, with his values and ambition aligning with the future of SWR.”
CEO, Tim Gilson, says “I am thrilled that Will is joining the Athelstan Trust and taking on the Headship of Sir William Romney’s School. Will is a very highly regarded, experienced school leader. The students, staff, governors and trustees who met Will during the very comprehensive selection process were impressed with his skills and experience and struck by his warmth and commitment to leading this wonderful school.”
Rob Skipp will continue as acting Headteacher until Will joins us.
