The café at Sir William Romney’s School has been undergoing some exciting changes over the last year. Our Food Technology Teacher and School Food Champion Clare Jones, Governor Roz Goodwin and Catering Manager Alison Thompson have worked together to bring about these changes. We have added additional items at break times, including hot chocolate and soup in the colder months and takeaway food for students who prefer to eat outside in the summer.
Our very generous PTFA has provided money to buy bar stools, trays, presentation baskets and water jugs, and has pledged further donations over the coming year.
Clare and Alison have also taken part in a series of workshops run by The Children’s Food Trust. This has given them the opportunity to work with other School Food Champions and Catering Managers from around the county to share ideas and best practice. Since attending these workshops they have introduced major changes in the café, resulting in much-reduced queuing times.
Future plans include seasonal menus, loyalty cards and new marketing material, courtesy of The Children’s Food Trust.
