The Athelstan Trust Speech and Debating Festival

We were incredibly proud of the 18 students who represented SWR at the Athelstan Trust Speech and Debating Festival on Thursday.
SWR were finalists in two categories: Dramatic Reading (Edie L) and the Debating (Jack M, Holly W, Bea D and Mason H).
All our students presented with confidence and results were very close! We’re looking forward to next year…
The event was recorded and can be viewed by clicking here

Heatwave / 18th & 19th July

Reminder that due to the anticipated heatwave on Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th July, students will be allowed to wear their PE kits instead of their school uniform on both days.
We would welcome your support in ensuring that students wear their PE kits and not other inappropriate garments on these days.
The Sports Hall will be open at break and lunchtime. Students are asked to use this space rather than the fields which have no shade.
Please encourage students to bring sufficient water throughout the school day – Perhaps freeze a water bottle or two overnight!

Announcement / Proms in the Park

As a community we have been working hard towards our summer event Proms in the Park which, after three years of absence and uncertainty, was due to take place on Monday 18th July at 6:30pm.

The Met office have forecast temperatures of up to 37 degrees Celsius for Monday 18th July, well into the evening, which poses a risk to health. As a result, I have taken the decision to cancel this year’s event. Whilst I appreciate this decision will be met with some disappointment, the health, safety and wellbeing of our students and local community has always been our absolute priority.

Please look after yourself and others during the coming heatwave, particularly those who might be considered vulnerable.

Heatwave / 18th & 19th July 2022

Dear Parents/Carers,
In response to the anticipated heatwave on Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th July, students will be allowed to wear their PE kits instead of their school uniform on both days.  I would welcome your support in ensuring that students wear their PE kits and not other inappropriate garments on these days.
Additionally, we will open our Sports Hall at break and lunchtime. Students are asked to use this space rather than the fields which have no shade.
Please could you also encourage students to bring sufficient water throughout the school day.
Thank you again for your support,
Jon Bell
