The value of House Competitions at Sir William Romney’s School
At Sir William Romney’s School, our house system is designed to help students develop strong character. This means encouraging motivation and ambition so that students can work towards long-term goals, while also learning to overcome setbacks with resilience and determination. Through their involvement in house activities, students grow in key virtues such as courage, honesty, integrity, and a strong sense of justice. They also build social confidence, learn to work effectively as part of a team, listen to others, and demonstrate good manners. Above all, the house system helps students to feel part of the wider SWR community and inspires them to strive to be the very best version of themselves.
Our house competitions play a vital role in shaping a vibrant, inclusive and aspirational school community. These events are far more than friendly contests – they are opportunities for students to develop the school values of aspiration, resilience and collaboration. Students who take part in events will be awarded points and these points will be added up to bronze, silver and gold awards each term.
Celebrating Achievement
Success is recognised not only in winning events but in participation, dedication and improvement. During termly house assemblies; house points, awards, and celebrations highlight collective achievements of students and reinforce a positive, motivating school culture.
